My Dad suggested this author to me sometime, ago, and the first book I read of Michael Murpurgo is a retelling of The Wizard of Oz.

This story was first published in 1908 by Lucy, Maud Montegomery and it has been made into a movie and also been turned into an audiobook, as well.

Then in the story Marilla wants to adopt an older boy as thinking that he would help Matthew on the farm and so, she, feels, disappointed when Matthew returns with a girl. The situation is made worse when Anne realizes that Marilla wanted a boy. Though Matthew liked Anne straight away and Marilla changed her mind and so in the end Anne stayed.

I have always liked reading Anne of Green Gables.
