What Organs and Glands are Included in the Endocrine System

The organs that are included in the endocrine system are the stomach and small intestine, the heart, the liver, skeletal muscle, and the adipose tissue. Though the endocrine system also includes glands too, and these are:

The hypothalamus, and the pituitary gland, the pineal gland, and the thyroid gland. Then there is the parathyroid gland and the thymus gland. Then the next two are the adrenal gland, and the pancreas.

These glands in the body are either endocrine glands or they can be exocrine glands.

Exocrine glands are not included in the endocrine system, though they are like lymph nodes and sweat glands, but the endocrine glands are part of it, and what their job is, is to release their hormones into the body’s bloodstream.

As the endocrine system uses hormones (messengers) that are made up of chemicals so it can communicate to its organs and glands.

These messages that the organ and glands receive from these hormones tell the various organs and glands what to do and also how they should function.

There are also quite a few different hormones, and they travel through the bloodstream to certain parts of the body like leptin is the hormone that communicates to the hypothalamus: to let it know that its body should stop eating as it has enough energy stored.

The leptin hormone also communicates with the pancreas to let it know that it has made enough insulin which is needed to lower a body’s blood sugar.

Then the other names of hormones that are found and used by the endocrine system is the hormone called adrenaline: which is used in times of stress, and this hormone can increase blood pressure too, as well as the heart and metabolism rates.

While aldosterone controls the balance of salt and water in a body, and cortisol is another hormone that may be used when a body is stressed. Then there’s dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-5) which a body uses to help the body to produce its odor. Also, when people are going through puberty dehydroepiandrosterone is used by the body so it can control the growth of hair.

Then there’s estrogen which is the hormone that is used by the body to regulate periods and the body also uses it to maintain pregnancies too.

Though another reason that the body uses this hormone is to help the fetus to develop the female characteristics if it’s a female.

While if the fetus is going to be male then the body uses the testosterone hormone. As this is the hormone that develops male characteristics. Testosterone is also known to contribute to the male as well as female sex drives. Then another hormone that has something to do with reproduction is the progesterone hormone as when an egg is fertilized the body uses this hormone to prepare itself for when the body is pregnant.

The body also uses a hormone that is called prolactin and that is if and when breast milk is required, and there is a follicle-stimulating hormone too, and its abbreviation is (FSH). Then this hormone controls the production of eggs in females and the sperm in males.

There is also a hormone that controls the amount of estrogen, and testosterone in a body, and when a female goes into ovulation, it controls that situation too. Then this hormone is known as the luteinizing hormone (LH).

While oxytocin is a hormone that helps mothers, bond with their children. Then next is the glucagon hormone which is used by the pancreas.

As depending on what is eaten it can raise the level of blood glucose or another name for it is blood sugar and insulin can also be used by the pancreas to lower blood sugar. There’s a hormone that controls our sleeping and waking hours too, and it is called melatonin and the next two are called the parathyroid hormone which has control over the amount of calcium that is in our bones and blood and the thyroid hormone is known to have several functions inside bodies but has something to do with our energy levels and metabolism.

Non-Dairy Forms of Calcium

I’ve been researching other forms of calcium that dogs can have for the course I am doing. As I have to create my own dog food recipe.

This course I am doing is also based in England, and they don’t like the idea of giving dogs bones. So, I’ve discovered that dark green leafy vegetables such as kale, spinach, cabbage, broccoli, and Bok choy, are all high in calcium. Though, that’s not all as there is also rolled oats, brown rice, and lentils as well.

While dogs do drink the milk from their dam when they are born, they then become dairy intolerant after they have been weaned from her.

Leptin and Leptin Resistance

Leptin is a hormone, that is found in the adipose tissue, as it regulates, how much and where body fat is stored.

This hormone is used by bodies to send messages to the brain. As without leptin the brain would not be aware that its body has eaten enough.

Or that its body has stored enough fat. Also, if there is too much leptin in a body, the leptin hormone loses its ability to let the brain know what it needs to know. Then why bodies need to use leptin is to control how much is eaten.

As definitely brains do need to know, that its body is no longer hungry.

Also, another thing that can happen when there is too much leptin in a body is that the body gains weight. Thus, as the leptin hormone loses its effectiveness to maintain its body normal weight the body may then start to become leptin resistant.

So, then the adipose tissue then produces more of the leptin hormone, as this is how a body controls situations like over-eating.
