The Dictionary of Lost Words

The Dictionary of Lost Words is by Pip Williams and comes in book form or audiobook and people can probably get it as an e-book too.

It is a historical fiction story about a girl called Esme who is absolutely fascinated by words and what they mean, and how they can be used in sentences. As she virtually grew up in a place that is called the scriptorium which is a real place as there are photographs.

Then in this story it mentioned that one day while Esme was under the sorting table where they sorted out what word that was going in a dictionary: which was going to be published.

The girl watched a scrap of paper land in her lap and the piece of paper had the word bond maid written on it.

Though as she was very young at the time Esme didn’t know how to say the word or what it meant but it was the start of something that she created. As she decided to call her rescued words her dictionary of lost words and it was a very interesting story: because the story was set in an era where not a lot of jobs were available for females during that time.
